Steve Wohlenhaus started Weather Eye Inc. in 1988 while serving as weekend and morning meteorologist at KARE 11 in Minneapolis. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Thomas in journalism and business marketing and management, and he obtained a postgraduate degree from the University of Denver in Meteorology.
Steve has received many Tele and Emmy awards for children’s science programming and numerous broadcasters’ awards for local severe weather programming. He has provided on-air meteorology support for KMSP Channel 9 in the Twin Cities.
Since its inception Weather Eye has evolved into the country’s most well respected consulting service to the radio industry. With over 400 affiliates nationwide, Steve and his staff have engineered the company’s rapid and progressive growth. In addition, the company serves a variety of weather intensive industries including some of the country’s largest public utilities.
Doug grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago before moving to northern Wisconsin. Doug is a huge Gopher football fan. His previous talents and jobs included a professional juggler, magician, clown and he played the trombone. Doug has been with Weather Eye for over 10 years.
Paul Trambley was born and raised in Plymouth, Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cites. Paul attended Gustavus Adolphus for 2 years before transferring to UW-Madison. He obtained his B.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science. Paul thought about being a stock broker at one time, but ultimately went back to his initial career choice of meteorologist. Paul has been working at Weather Eye since Spring 2002.
Laura Lockwood grew up in Circle Pines, MN and has lived most of her life there. Laura is one of the very few meteorologists who grew up not wanting to be a meteorologist. In fact she was terrified of storms. Laura wanted to be an Astrophysicist when she started college. She also took a year off of school to live in Spain, and found how much she missed the changing seasons. It was then that she realized how much she loved MN weather. When she came back she took a meteorology class and feel in love with weather.
Ray Miller grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas (Jawhawks) where he received his B.S in Atmospheric Science. Ray moved to Minnesota in 2006 when he was hired by Weather Eye. He misses the fact that there is less snow to shovel in Kansas!
Sam Dunaiski grew up in Duluth, MN. He loves the fact that Duluth is clean, laid-back and slow paced. He also enjoyed the various weather that Duluth would have year round. It wasn’t until high school that he decided to study meteorology. His high school guidance counselor told him to pursue a job that you will have an interest in all the time. And that is what led Sam to a degree in weather. Sam attended UW-Madison and received his B.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science. He is the oldest of three and is married.
Jim Marusak was born in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania and was raised in Nanticoke, PA. He attended Penn State University and obtained his B.S. in Meteorology. Jim also worked for World Weather Watch in Markham, Ontario before coming to Weather Eye.
Mandy Thalhuber was born and raised in the Twin Cites. She always had a passion for meteorology, even at a very young age. She would always run outside during storms, taking pictures and giving her family weather reports. Mandy was always fascinated by the sciences even at a young age and continued her passion for them into college.
Mandy graduated Cum Laude from Saint Cloud State University, with a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences, and a minor in Mass Communications.
Phil Genskow was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended UW Milwaukee where he obtained his B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences. He has always wanted to be a meteorologist ever since his parents got the weather channel on cable. Phil also interned for the North Dakota Cloud Modification Project, where he was a forecaster and regular meteorologist in Stanley, ND.
Michael Karow grew up in Oshkosh, WI (yes he is a Packer fan.) Being a broadcast meteorologist is not the only thing Michael can do with his voice. Michael was offered a full ride scholarship to UW Madison for music/singing, but chose meteorology instead. Michael attended UW Madison and earned a B.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
Greg Tatro was born and raised in KingMan, Kansas. Greg attended the University of Kansas and obtained his B.S. in Atmospheric Science. Greg knew ever since he was seven years old that he wanted to be a meteorologist. Greg's first grade teacher's son came and talked to them about weather and ever since then Greg was hooked. Greg comes to Weather Eye from KHAS-TV in Hastings Nebraska where he worked for 4 years as an on-air broadcast meteorologist.
